Variety
No single food or food group supplies
all the vitamins and minerals you need. Variety means choosing from
all the food groups, and eating different foods from within each
group.
Balance
Keep your daily diet in nutrition balance by selecting the most
servings from food groups at the base of the Pyramid - Grain, Vegetable,
and Fruit - and fewer servings from the Meat and Milk groups.
Moderation
Fats, oils, and sweets, like butter, margarine, candy, and soft
drinks, depicted at the tips of the Pyramid, should be eaten in
moderation. They add flavor and enjoyment, but generally do not
supply important vitamins and minerals. |
